A New Way of “Going Viral”

In the digital world, we often talk about things “going viral” and how easy it is to track how users interact with projects online. Now scientists are starting to apply this same kind of logic to disease research. This recent article on PSFK’s blog talks about how researchers used RFID technology to track the spread of the Flu in one high school. It’s a great reminder of how technology can be used to further our understanding of any number of conditions. Surely it’s just a matter of time before researchers start taking advantage of geolocation services like Foursquare or Gowalla to study patient behavior, as well.
